Shuttleworth June Flying Day

The weatherman is fallible you know. For pretty much the entire week leading up to the show the good old Met Man said it would be like the second coming of Noah, then as if by magic the night before the show the forecast changed to all day cloudy.

Wrong again. What we got was a bit of everything, sunny first thing, followed by low cloud then a shower and then almost clear blue skies. I take all the credit because I went without hat (that you to the Chief Pilot for lending me his) or Sunscreen. You can all thank me later but for now, here are some photos of the day.

Shuttleworth June Evening show

There are few more magical events in aviation than a Shuttleworth Collection evening display. Here are my favourite shots from a rather chilly Saturday evening on the first day of June 2013.

A Spring Evening at Shuttleworth

This year, air displays at the Shuttleworth Collection appear to be like buses, nothing for ages then two come along at once. So fater last weeks season opener, we all met again at Old Warden for the first evening display of the year.

The last time I saw the BBMF’s Spitfire TE311 it was being put on the back of a trailer at RAF Abingdon in 1991! After a lot of hard work it was good to see it make its Shuttleworth display debut.

Shuttleworth April Flying Day – The Early Bird

Spring is here. The birds are singing, the leaves unfurling on the trees while the daffodils are blooming. May is my favourite month of the year as the Countryside comes out of its winter slumber.
But hang on, the digit on the month is still saying 4! This isnt May, its still April.

The Shuttleworth Collection got the jump on everyone this year and started the UK airshow season off a week early with the April Flying Day. The day started with beautiful sunshine, but this is England in April so it couldnt last. But that didnt stop the Engineers and Volunteers from enjoying the bright early morning sunshine as they pulled the aircraft out for their first display of the year.
